General Information

TIMELINE

Sans is from the post-True Pacifist route, meaning he lives among humans, knows about them, and is used to being on the Surface. However, his reset incarnations have suffered other routes - one Genocide and multiple versions of the Neutral route - which gives him a large catalogue of nightmares, deja vu, and other such issues he never discusses with people.

TRAITS

Sans' right eye glows blue (default color) and can flicker yellow. The glowing is done at will, though the yellow flicker seems to come in when he's using his powers. Glowing seems to give him some kind of odd comfort, though he's not sure why - like most things, the glow from Papyrus comforts him far more.

POWERS / ABILITIES

"Shortcuts"

So named by Sans, this is the ability to warp time and space to teleport himself and anyone he touches to anywhere he pleases. He can use this ability seemingly infinitely, though he can't chain jumps together too quickly or he'll tap out. He uses this to get around, to infiltrate, or prank people, depending on his mood.

Low Stamina & Health

While he doesn't directly have 1 HP like in-game, he is so weak that a single good, very strong hit could kill or cripple him. In addition, his stamina verges on the lower end. He can keep up just fine with most things, but too much exertion in a small time frame will leave him dangerously tired, to the point he'll doze off even if he knows he's in danger.

Dodging

Because of said "weak constitution", Sans has become an expert at dodging, to the point that he broke the in-game rules to dodge attacks. For RP purposes, this manifests as the ability to dodge nearly anything (including bullets), making him nigh-impossible to hit. The only known way of hitting him is to run his stamina out and attack while he's asleep.

Color Attacks

White
All monsters have the basic white "bullet" attacks; in Sans' case, these appear as bones, used more as clubs or hazards rather than flung, though he can use them that way if necessary. He can also use them for defense.

Blue
Like Papyrus, he can turn an enemy's SOUL blue, thus giving it weight and making it harder for them to dodge. Unlike his brother, however, he also uses this power to grip said soul, allowing him to manipulate the physical body as if he were holding onto it instead - something he uses to slam said body into hard surfaces to deal damage. He can also use it in a more peaceful way to restrain or immobilize someone.

Light Blue & Orange (Attacks)
Manifesting in the usual bone shapes, Sans can make his attacks either Blue or Orange to force an enemy to either sit still (blue) or move quickly through them (orange), depending on the color.

Green
Sans possesses the ability to heal others either through green attacks or through physical contact and focus. It doesn't work very well on himself, works mostly okay on others (he's not the best healer), and works extremely well on Papyrus.

Gaster Blasters

At any point, he can summon a skeletal animal-like head to fire a beam out of its mouth. Rather than being a natural part of his magic, this was a creation that was fused to him to augment his power, though Sans can't explain who did it, why, or what the name means. The credit for them is usually attributed to him, which he doesn't protest or correct.

KARMA

Being actually hit by one of his attacks doesn't hurt very much (in-game terms, it does 1HP damage). However, the danger behind Sans' attacks isn't the damage output, but what it leaves behind. Every one of Sans' attacks draws on the target's "sins" (severe harm they did to others) to injure them and sap their strength. The injury won't come all at once, instead being a lingering, searing, sickening pain that persists long after they were hit. The longer contact with an attack, the longer KARMA lingers, and multiple hits will stack up onto each other.

KARMA, however, only affects those with sins. Innocent people (like his brother Papyrus) can touch his attacks and be completely unharmed, while those with an extreme list of sins can be downed by just a few short seconds of contact. It doesn't matter if the person being attacked considers what they've done a sin or feels any remorse for it - if they have sins, they take the damage.

KARMA also appears to invoke a physical feeling, as shown in Sans' battle.
You felt your sins crawling on your back. [0-10 KR]
You felt your sins weighing on your neck. [10-20 KR]
KARMA coursing through your veins. [20-30 KR]

HISTORY

Sans (and Papyrus, by extension) is not a natural-born monster. Ages ago, a skeleton named Wingding Gaster fought alongside the monsters during the War with the humans and was sealed in the Underground with them. While the surrounding circumstances are unknown, during an experiment, Gaster fell into the Core's specialty, magic-infused lava. Instead of dying, he was completely shattered, body and soul, ripped to shreds and scattered across time and space. Two large pieces of his SOUL that avoided destruction were instead flung across the Underground.

Persisting because of Gaster's Boss Monster status, they existed long enough for the universe to essentially "force-reload" them. With a large part of the soul missing, the universe instead warped the shards and filled the gaps with whatever it could before releasing them, allowing them to manifest physical forms - that of Papyrus and Sans. This "junk data" being fused with the soul shards are what give the two of them their odd, un-monster-like powers (Sans' easy manipulation of spacetime/his KARMA power, Papyrus' flight/hover ability).

While Gaster's consciousness still exists, the lack of SOUL prevents him from manifesting physically. However, he does still manifest in other ways, haunting the two, though only Sans seems to understand that "someone" is missing in his thoughts or memories; not that he ever knows any details past that.
